These Are Difficult Times
Consider these tips for handling difficult time signatures, and apply similar practices to handling difficult times.
You may have seen this meme on the internet, as it’s been circulating for a while. I found this because music related jokes come across my newsfeed on occasion. After sharing it, I started to think a bit more deeply about it.
These are difficult times, no joke.
So I searched “Handling difficult time signatures” on Google, and since I’ve had experience handling difficult times (haven’t we all?) I started to recognize and apply similar practices to handling difficult times. So far, here’s what I recognized
- Tip: Listen Actively: Pay close attention to music in different time signatures, focusing on the rhythmic patterns and how they feel.
- Transferable skill: Pay close attention to what is being said in different communities, news outlets, from different walks of life. More importantly, watch what people do in addition to what they say.
- Tip: Play Simple Rhythms: Start with simple rhythms and gradually increase the complexity.
- Transferable skill: Start where you are, act locally, take on one issue at a time.
- Tip: Repetition and Familiarity: The more you practice, the more natural these time signatures will become.
- Transferable skill: We’ve been though somewhat similar situations before, and regardless of how they turned out, if we were paying attention, we can see which actions (practices) worked and which didn’t.
If you can think of anything else, please feel free to share.
That’s all for now.
Ox,
Mari
