Meme Me Up, Scotty
We are way past absurdity at this point.
As for everything else that is going on in the world -- If you have been paying attention, things are weird, scary and absurd right now, and I'm not sure if that's due to things being worse or because it's all out in the open because of the internet. It seems to be a combination of the two. I can't help hoping that it will open our collective eye to what is really important in the world. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I'd rather be hopeful than depressed and cynical. I've been there and it just doesn't work for me. What works for me is to keep working to get better and not giving up.
It seems humans have to go through certain cycles to relearn lessons every now and again, because we tend to forget. I include myself in that, of course, because I recognize patterns. That said, when you view something as a lost cause, sometimes, all you can do is document what is happening, so people open to new information can learn from it. And some folks refuse to admit they were wrong, so there’s that. And, they will punish YOU for pointing out the truth. Humans are weird.
Anyway, about memes: As I watched the silly Gavin Newsom memes pop up last week, I kept thinking of that Frank Zappa quote meme that keeps circulating - the one about politics being the entertainment division of the military industrial complex...I started wondering if he actually ever said that, so I looked it up. So far, it seems as if he never said that. I'm inserting a screenshot of what he actually stated, (according to Google books,)as printed in his autobiography: :
Wise words, indeed. The challenge is, how do we, the citizens who want to preserve and defend our democratic republic, balance that “Madison Avenue aspect” with the needs of government, which require people who usually work behind the scenes?
Think about it.
