First things first - I thought I already published a post debate post a couple of days ago, but I just found it in my drafts folder. I’m still trying to figure out Substack’s writer dashboard, so thanks in advance for your kindness and understanding.
Now, about that "debate.” IMHO, the purpose of a “debate” is to get to know previously unknown candidates. We already know these two people. One is a pathological liar and a grifter, and the other has dedicated his life to public service. What else do we need to know? I am not too thrilled with the media’s overreaction to Biden’s “performance.”
For goodness sake, can we have some real journalism in America?
Speaking of journalism, I was so shocked and disappointed in Dan Rather’s clickbait “Steady” post, “For The Good of The Country” - that I had to make a comment. There are 1,000 comments as I write this, so my comment is buried. I haven’t had an opportunity to read the other comments, and doubt I will be able to, as I’m learning new tunes for an upcoming live album recording next week.
Anyway, since you are reading this, I will spare you the trouble of clicking the link - here is what I shared, with some additional emphasis added:
Et tu, Dan Rather?
For the good of the country please stop. Biden is a decent man who understands how government works. Is he perfect? No. Who is? Certainly not that other error in our country's history. As far as someone younger, we already have a succession plan in place should Biden be unable to fulfill his duties as POTUS. Talk about that, will you?
President Biden has won the Democratic primary. He is the candidate. He is not the world's greatest orator - but he used to stutter! Please, we already know who both of these people are, which is probably why the voters are so "complacent" as you state. Half as many viewers did not bother to tune into to this "debate" as to the previous one. Can you blame them? I wish I spared myself the horror of listening to Trump spew lie after lie. I just want him to go away. He should not be allowed anywhere near the White House.
Remember - Trump lost all three "debates" to Hillary, but he still ended up being elected.
Why did Trump win in 2016? Simply, for various reasons, not the least of which was how the Democrats bungled the convention, not enough people came out to vote. Who expected it to be that close? Who knew there was a Christo fascist agenda in play? If we didn't know then, whoever is paying attention certainly knows about it now.
This election isn't even about the two individuals. It is about what each person represents:
Separation of church and state, anyone?
Regulations that protect our water and air?
Bodily autonomy for women?
How is it that people who are always insisting on "freedom" from government regulations are so quick to place new regulations on women's bodies?
I could go on, but isn't each single one of these issues more than enough reason to cast a vote for the Biden/Harris ticket? Joe already beat him once. He has the best chance to do it again. Why is no one talking about how and why Trump has to choose a new running mate? How often has that happened in our country's history?
Ask yourself, "Who owns the New York Times?" Could it possibly be a group of very wealthy people who do not want their taxes raised?
So disappointed that you decided to join the clickbait chorus.
This is not journalism.
We need you and your Steady team to do better. Please, "for the good of the country."
Folks, we are at a point where we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines or put up with what passes for journalism these days. We need to speak truth to family and friends blinded by the light of this BS.
I am wholeheartedly voting for the Biden/Harris team and blue all the way down the ticket. If you are a sane and reasonable person, I urge you to do the same. It is the only way we will be able to protect our democratic republic and restore balance and credibility to the Supreme Court.
As stated previously, our system has a succession plan in place should Biden become unable to fulfill the duties as President.
This is not about one person. It is about ALL of US.
Btw, feel free to read the “Steady” post and make your own comment. If you click on the link below the subscription box, you can see the comment and a couple of responses from folks who were also reading at that same time.
Thanks for caring enough to read.
